Thanks guys for helping me to finally get my first wild deer!  The Whanganui Meat Hunt was one awesome way to spend a day.  I took my video camera with me and got some pretty impressive footage of wild game as well as taking down my first deer.  The terrain was challenging but not too challenging and the guide Pete shared a heap of hunting knowledge with me that should come in handy over the roar.  Thanks for a great day, I would definitly reccommend this hunt to anyone wanting a fun day in the hills.  Josh

Chanelle’s Hunting Trip (New Zealand) – 17th January 2012, Meat hunting near Whanganui

“We travelled down on the Thursday afternoon and stayed with Pete for the night. After we arrived Pete had Chanelle shot with the rifle she was going to use on Friday.

After a great breakfast we drove to the place that we were going to spend the day hunting on. Within 10 minutes (we started hunting at around 8.30am) we saw our first deer and a short while later Chanelle had her chance to shoot her first deer. With quiet and calm advice from Pete Chanelle shot a spiker (Her first ever deer)

It was a fantastic experience to be able to see deer regularly (with some great stags being seen) and by 12 Chanelle had shot another 2 – including a big cull stag. After a leisurely lunch we continued on and not long after she had shot her 4th animal.

The whole day was a fantastic experience – seeing many wild deer and being able to watch them. Pete is an outstanding guide and had Chanelle feeling very relaxed and confident in her ability to shoot. The day was organised as a chance for Chanelle to shot a deer and to finish it shooting 4 (every animal she shot at she got) was brilliant.

I would recommend anyone wanting a great days hunting to go on this guided trip. In Chanelle’s words it was like spending the day hunting with a family member. One thing is certain – we will be back.” - Wayne (Proud Dad)

“Wow what an adventure!The weather was not the flashest first day I got there, so instead of hunting we scouted the terrain and I got to watch a tonne of deer lazing around in their natural habitat, an amazing experience! I saw wild goats, pigs, Fallow and Red deer and they were not in short supply!I got some great photos, and had an absolutely amazing time! I have already decided I will be going back next year! I have attached a photo of my very first deer, taken at about 200 meters uphill with a nasty wind. “I booked the trip through your website and all went well, with a fast response and follow up from Chris. This trip was to try and get my son his first deer (a trip for his 15th birthday). He had been out a couple of times with me with no success but was a confident bird shooter.

Firstly Pete got my son to fire a couple of practice shots just to see how accurate and confident he was.( Pete supplied the rifle for our hunt )

Pete new the property pretty well (he had an aerial photo to show us where we were heading and the farm lay out, couple of thousand acres ) We saw a number of animals and I had a great time just observing Fallow deer lazing around in their natural habitat through the binoculars and spotting scope.

We walked the property and were put in all the right places, hunting certainly wasn’t easy ( a good work-out physically ) we had to work for our deer which was great, these are wild animals and could head off into the surrounding country at will.( but at a guess I’d say we observed close to 60-70 animals during the day) with my son securing two young stags.

Later in the day we were given the option to continue deer stalking or head off to another block to have a crack at some goats. my son took the second option so after a feed at about 3pm we set off into some rugged country with good results( a number of goats shot), then it was back to Pete’s
place at around 7pm for a couple of drinks and and a backsteak on the barbecue with Pete and his wife Chrissy.

This was a great day, and I now have a very keen and confident stalker in my son.

The service was personal and friendly with Pete putting my son at ease and encouraging him all the way, I couldn’t think of a better way to get a first deer, or meat for the freezer. We saw a couple of pretty good heads too, so a trip later in the year would be a good idea.”
